  3. Where’s the narrowest point in the code where I can test that?
    “Right after the mapping function returns.”

Now your debugger session has a mission: check the shape of the mapped object there. You’re no longer stepping line-by-line hoping something looks suspicious; you’re verifying or killing a specific theory.

You can use the same pattern with AI:

  • Bad: “Why is my code wrong?”
  • Better: “I think the bug is in this mapping logic because the API response looks correct but the UI shows wrong values. What test or observation would quickly confirm or refute that?”
